3200 RPM = Engine Coughing

Hello.... I have an '88 560SL that I love. But when I accellerate (not "pedal to the metal") and the engine hits RPM... it coughs. It really doesn't matter what gear or speed... once the tach hits about 3200, the coughing starts.

Is there a Rev limiter? What's the kickdown switch? It's not a "cat" problem because it happens ONLY at 3200.

Thanks!
Michael B
