Identifying a MB Part by it's Number

I am attempting to organize my parts. Some of which I have had for quite some time and their boxes are not in good shape. So I am sure I will have this challenge again in the near future. How can I identify the purpose and vehicle applicability of a part by it's part number?

Example: The box is not readable. The MB Part Number is quite clear and is stamped: 117 052 0631 If I understand the MB Part numbering system correctly the 117 indicates the part is for automotive and that is all I know.

My memory, yeah right, wants me to believe this part has something to do with my 87 560SL. However I would not bet on that and what to do with that vehicle I haven't a clue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave H...
