Calipers. Rebuilt or replace?
What is the REAL deal? I did a search and some people recommended replace them and others recommended rebuilt them. I have a small leak (it brakes fine, so far) in the left rear caliper in my car. I am not sure which way I should go. However, calipers are not cheap, rebuilt kits are. The MB manual mentions something like "check the rubber seal in the calipers if damaged, replace seal". I am also planning to change the brake hoses and change the brake fluid at the same time. Which way should I go? and should rebuilt/replace both rear calipers at the same time?
TIA

Good question , I personally dont like to rebuild calipers, if you can find used or even a reman set then go for it. To professionally rebuild the calipers they need to be broken down all the way and cleaned. Problem with this is when you split the caliper there are 2 o-rings in there and I have not been able to locate any of these o-rings and they dont come in the kits. Besides on a technician level it is cheaper on the customer and less headache for us to replace instead of rebuild.

Caliber Mercedes - California. 800-225-4237 Rebuilt calipers that MB warrants. Not sure I'd want to gamble with something like this. |

A different view...
Is it worth it to upgrade the rear calipers ONLY (plus disks) and not the front calipers from a 400E?
Just looking at different options. Thanks!
