Accumulator is to keep pressure up while engine is warm so that the fuel will not boil.

Same as what happened to me when I changed the fuel pressure regulator after I read that fuel visible in the clear overflow tube meant is was NG. It had been that way for 10+ years. Waste of money.

Tilac are you talking about the same thing .My accumulator is under the trunk floor along side the filter ?. Fuel pressure regulator is under the airfilter .If it has fuel dripping from the small pipe after you remove it , or leaking in to it . Then its shot.

Pull vacuum line on fpr if it smells of fuel the diaphragm inside has failed. Replace fpr. My 94 m104 had similar issue, vac line test failed, replaced fpr and now starts immediately. Good luck!

FPR under the air filter. Always had a bubble of fuel in the clear plastic tube. Changed it out, no more fuel in line but no difference in performance and/or starting. Haven't touched the accumulator but have changed filter as required by MB schedule.

Did you run the simple accumulator internal leak test I described in threads I started about a year ago? See post #10.

I think some confuse the accumulator and pressure regulator and may not even be aware of the accumulator or understand its purpose. The accumulator is co-located with the pump(s) and filter. under the floorpan ahead of the LR wheel.

Any leak in the accumulator diaphragm probably starts out small, but will get worse with time. Initially the hot and cold staring problems may be intermittent, but as the leak gets worse, so will the hot and cold starting problem.

My hard starting happened internittently a few times, then went away for a couple of months, then came back with a vengence. That's when I figured out I could easily test the accumulator for internal leakage. It clearly had an internal leak, and replacing it brought both hot and cold starting back to normal.

Try reading my post again. I said the accumulator holds 20cc of fuel and said nothing about 20C temperature.
