I closed the electric slide-only sunroof on my 190D. Just as the roof sealed closed, i heard, what sounded like a nut, drop, and then a long metal bar drop immediately afterward. Now, the sunroof motor clicks, and the roof remains stationary. I do own the manuals, Is this repair a DIY project for a Sunny day off or a "dealer-only" fix? Thank you for commenting...

If the bolts did drop off of the cable it will be difficult for a do it yourselfer to repair although not impossible. Get a manual to do it yourself or take it to the shop. Good luck!

The bolts attaching the cable to the sunroof on my 190 came loose and one fell out. This caused the cable to pivot around the existing bolt and disengage the drive gear in the motor upon closing the roof. To fix crawl in the trunk with your tools and remove the motor gearbox cover and drive gear, pull cable rearward and re-engage with gear. Re-assemble. Get in car and open sunroof halfway (make sure you push the switch in right direction or you will have to start over again) un clip the roof linning at the forward edge and push rearward. You should now be able to access the attach point for the cable.
