SRS Reset, 2006 W211 E350

I have a SRS light for my passenger seat that I cannot reset. The car is a W211, E350 made in 2005 but registered as a 2006??

I purchased an "Ecutool" Type 2 Seat Occupation Sensor Emulator for MB Type 2" (for E W211 2004-2007) and installed it under the passenger seat, carefully soldering the connections to like color wires pointing into the connector. NOTE: The videos on line for this type of thing seem to show the MBZ connector at the front of the seat but my connector with those wire colors are at the L side of the seat (under it of course) Only those wire colors match up and have the right quantity (3) so it should be right.

I also purchased a fairly expensive Carsoft MBII Code Reader. I hooked it up and went through the airbag reset procedure to no avail as the accursed SRS light is still on! The Carsoft unit states: 9080 A component of control module WSS is faulty. Read DTC memory of control unit WSS

I thought that installing the seat emulator would tell the car electronics that the seat SRS was o.k. and the reset would turn out the warning light on the dash. It doesn't seem to be so. Anyone have any suggestions - it would be most appreciated! Thanks!

The fault is with the weight sensing system, ie WSS. The WSS utilizes four force sensors in the mounting of the seat frame. Assuming everything is actually ok with the WSS, a protracted calibration sequence is required to bring it back online. In all likelihood there are problems with the force sensors which are not sold separate from the frame. Be sitting down before you get a quote for the lower seat frame from MB.

Hi Dux, thanks for your kind reply but I was afraid of that. I take it then that the emulator isn't able to fool the onboard computer and get that cursed light off.

There really ought to be a way to effectively lie to a computer as simple as this one surely is.

If you only ever witnessed the convoluted calibration procedure ......

There is a "fake ass" that accepts barbell weights and the seat is moved through its ranges with varying weights. If at any measurement any one of the force sensors is out of a fairly narrow tolerance (+-4lbs IIRC) it fails calibration. Just the interference between the back and bottom cushions can fail the calibration so it is standard to punch the seat to "relieve" those stresses before any measurements.

WSS = yet another reason to never own a W211.

It certainly appears that a proper calibration is decidedly not fun to do but it is probably possible to unplug the weight sensors entirely and feed the circuit with whatever - resistance or voltage ? - that will satisfy the computer that all is well with the seat and an adult is sitting in it. I'm surprised that someone hasn't come up with it.
Actually, thinking about it, I just did a search and someone did! What do you think of this as a solution:
