W211 E500 Wagon Engine Noise!

I just purchased a 2004 E500 wagon with the 5.0L V8 from Copart and am having a hard way to go with the engine. It starts easy and runs nice and smooth but has a very noticeable tapping sound coming from the driver's side cylinder bank. It's not horribly metallic sounding and isn't a sharp/loud sound, however it's very rhythmic. I have a hunch that it's within the fuel system of the car as the very first fuel injector closest to the front of the car seems to (maybe) be the culprit. I've had the belt off of the car and ran it for a few seconds to conclude that none of the accessories are causing the noise. I will be uploading a video very shorty that demonstrates the sound. Does anyone have any preliminary ideas?

Momentarily pull the plug from the injector and see if the noise goes away.

Thank you for the input, I will do that when I get a chance. Here is the video that I spoke of in my previous post: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1QA3LKQaL8&feature=youtu.be

As far as I know, the check engine light is not on. Again, when I get home, I'll double-check to make certain but im relatively sure it isn't. After I posted this thread last night, I went back to scour the web and found that these engines (M113 E50?) have recurring issues with lifter clatter. I'm assuming that one of the lifters on the the driver's side of the engine is out of spec and needs replacing. But I guess I won't know for sure until I take the valve cover off and poke around inside.

If you're new to working on this generation MB and you're planning to keep this one for a while I recommend getting an icarsoft i980 or MBII scanner. It can read and delete codes from every computer in the car just like the STAR diagnostic tool.

I just picked up a really cheap c320 wagon with a "broken" transmission and I use the i980 to bring it out of limp mode. It's shift beautifully.

Let me know what you lean about the lifter issue. I'm new to the M112 and it shares most components with the m113.

This is an excellent suggestion jcoop, this will save you a lot of headaches when troubleshooting. I've attached a link to our site's scan tools. Please let me know if you have any questions; we're happy to help out!
