1995 E420...new adventure...
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all my Pelican friends!
On my way to the mall on Sunday the oil pressure gauge crashed to 0. The car ran as good as ever and still does but at that moment I thought... Huh!? A couple of moments later, all the warning lights came on, Still driving normal, no hesitations, no shudders, after another moment, all the lights went off, oil pressure gauge went to the top but five minutes later lights came back on. At the mall I disconnected the battery. And after connecting it back up, the intermittentcy returned again. Car runs fine! Bui, I know this is a sign that something is about to happen. Any clues? Thanks in advance for participating.

I’d hope it’s just a voltage regulator but the usual early symptom is the ABS warning light.

Lower wiring harness??? Never heard of it. On my E320 I had the wiring harness replaced and that was it! On the Pelican parts list there is only one wiring harness for both the E320 and E420.

Sixto...I also have a sedan and a wagon and never heard about a voltage regulator early warning failure light.

Those V8 cars have a lower harness that has wires for the oil pressure sensor, oil level sender, alternator and starter. IIRC correctly it has been NLA for a while now. You could try to patch it but I'd pull and re-do the whole harness. It suffers from the same deterioration as the upper harnesses from that era.

+1 on the response from duxthe1. on some motors, it also goes to the starter and trans neutral safety sw. good luck, chuck.

Sounds like a simple ground failure to me. Look at the ground wire cluster behind the instrument panel.

usually when we see that at the dealer its the alternator going or gone out , next overvoltage relay if it has one
