W124 300e 12 valve faint floor vibration
Hi all.
Wondering if you could point me in the right direction. I have a faint vibration coming through the floor about a foot behind the drivers side footrest. Being a righhand drive car, this is the area where there is that tarry centimetre thick bit of insulating material. (Basically the nearest part of the footwelll to the transmission) It is such that it is only noticeable (annoyingly so) when your foot is placed in this area. Also it is not speed related, but spikes throughout the 1900 - 2100 rpm range, no matter how fast you accelerate. When I mentioned it to the mechanic, he loosened/tightened underside components that he said build up stress overtime. It PARTIALLY relieved the problem, but now its back 100%. Annoyingly I can't say when it appeared so I don't know if recently replaced engine mounts might be the problem. Given the symptoms, would this be a transmission or engine related problem. Thanks much in advance. |

2 things come to mind,
1. The exhaust downpipe is close to where you say the vibration is felt, moving the engine around during mount replacement may be a factor, try slackening the downpipe to manifold bolts and other exhaust fixings and adjusting. 2. Worn propshaft flex joints, however the vibration is usually felt a little furthe back and is related to road speed, not engine speed. |

I would change the rear tranny mount and then align it.
This is done by pushing the car back and forth a few times with the cross member mount bolts LOOSE. That lets the mount settle where there is no stress and find its own alignment. Then tighten the bolts. That is prolly what you mechanic loosened/tightened under there. |

Hey esmith, Do Australians really describe good-looking men as 'spunky' ?
Hahaha I laughed my head off when I heard that! later

Thanks for the replies, I'll try them out.
As for the 'spunky' topic pentoman, um...... If a guy said it, he'd get nailed by VB bottles (not Fosters cans). Girls might say it, but probably only about good-looking guys with short vertical hair. Ciao. |
