1988 260E Power Window woes

So my driver's side rear window has never worked since I've owned the car but am now interested in fixing it. I can hear a click sound when pushing the button but there's no movement at all. I'm not the best at electrical diagnosis but knowledgeable enough that if guided I think I can figure it out! Where should I start? I have the door panel off, but I feel as though I'm all dressed up but have nowhere to go🙂. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Give the window motor a few taps with a small hammer while a helper is repeatedly pressing the window switch............

Many window motors have an internal overload protective device (basically a circuit breaker) that can fail and leave the motor inoperable. If you're handy with a multimeter, take a voltage reading at the motor terminals when you push the button. If you're getting voltage, the motor is probably your culprit.

I'm getting voltage at the switch but not sure I can get to the terminals on the motor without removing it...Anyone know?

My drivers window just stopped working one day. Figured it was the motor so I bought a used one off ebay for $50. Took about an hour to replace and I lubricated all the sliders etc whilst in there. Works like a champ. Very easy job. Now my 99 Volvo C70 Cabriolet needs the window done as well. Not easy, not cheap ($945 at the Indie)
Just replaced all the rear rotors and pads. Our W124s' are really easy and satisfying to work on.
Give it a go!

If you can find a used window regulator, great, and a new one is about $106 on peachparts. Fairly easy to change out once you've mastered removing the door panel. Almost guaranteed to be unfixable in its current state unless it has only jumped the track or something like that. However, I doubt it.

Well you are correct about getting the door panel off! I giggled with it for seems like two hours trying carefully to remove so as to not break it but it finally came off. It's the solid, decisive sudden 'pull' upwards on it from the bottom edge. Someone had obviously tried removing it before my ownership as a couple of the clips had come unglued from the panel. So, it's ready to fix. I've just got to decide if I want to try a cheap one from eBay - like under $40!
