2006 E350 balance shaft question

Greetings,
Is there a way to find out if this repair was done by contacting the dealer with the VIN?
Looking at one with service records since new and one owner but the car was traded and he doesn’t know but the repair may be in the records.
Thank you for your input
G

The VIN will allow any MB dealer to run a master vehicle inquiry (VMI). The VMI will provide the engine number which will then make it possible to check the Service Bulletin to see if you have the affected balance shaft.

FWIW your car probably has the early production M272, which didn't have the balance shaft issue due to a different timing chain configuration......

i ran the VIN and was able to get the engine number which seemed to be in the range for having the problem....was not aware that there was an 'older' 272 for this balance shaft issue was n/a??.....engine number is 272972 30 243346 if anyone has the capability to check it...
M272 higher than 272972 30 468993 is said to be ok

You are correct, and your engine is the affected range, as is mine.
I have 135k miles and the engine runs very smoothly, but I haven't checked if the timing is off or still correct.
Great info here: You are being redirected...
