pkash, if you are in the los angeles area, I highly recommend mr mb motors in tarzana. The owner enrique is top notch, and wont give you the run around.

If you decide your current mech is not being straight with your or seems to not know as much about these cars as he should, and you are looking to find a new mechanic, you should try mr mb motors in tarzana. 818-708-8086. It is well worth the short drive.

The 1980 model year was the first year for 3-way cats & O2 sensor systems. The engine was de-rated to 160 HP vs. 180 for earlier ones. This was due to lower compression ratio & lower overlap on the cam timing. I’m not sure if the lower compression was due to modifications to the pistons (only) or also an alteration to the combustion chambers in the head castings as well. So… the heads may well indeed be different – check with MBZ to see if the part numbers match between a ’79 & ’80.

You're ight Running -- there are plenty of differences in 79 and 80 V8 engines -- but the cylinder head is not among them.
