Snap ring in oil pan
I recently acquired an 84 300D. Dropped the pan to replace the turbo down tube and found a snap ring in the oil pan. Car ran and drove fine. Any one have an idea what it might be if it came from inside the 617?
edit: looks like this might be from the oil pump chain tensioner; guess I'm pulling the engine. Last edited by MonsterMatt; 06-05-2022 at 02:12 PM. |

Id run a camera into the engine and look before pulling it. It may have been replaced and dropped by mistake. It looks stretched out of spec. Hate to see you pull it and find it was a simple fix.

Thanks. I'm definitely trying to avoid doing more work than I need. After I found the ring I shoved my face up in the oil pan and could see the tensioner was cockeyed. Managed to pull the oil pump from underneath and sure enough it was missing the ring. Hopefully finding a new snap ring won't be too hard!
