I have never owned a diesel powered car before. Are the engines always so noisy? What are the benefits and drawbacks of this car? The interior is immaculate and it drives well. When your in the car and driving, you can't even hear the engine, but when you're standing next to the car it makes a rattling noise, especially right after you start the engine. Any info is appreciated.

This engine did have a timing chain and sprocket problem that did cause noisy operation if the injcetion pump timing was off. It is easy to have repaired by a qualified tech.

Thanks for your response. I had read in other places that it is common to hear some rattling noises until the car is warmed up. I guess the best thing to do would be to take it in and see if this is the normal "diesel engine sounds".
