The source of the name is a piece of dinnerware used to spear a pickle off the pickle dish, or out of a pickle jar (for those of us who are so crass as to serve them from a jar. It is small with only two tines.

This name is applied to a tie rod end puller. This tool also has two tines, but they are wedge shaped and about 5/8" apart. It is like two wedge shaped chisels attached parallel to each other. You can drive it between a tie rod end and steering arm, pitman arm or idler arm to remove the pesky old tie rod ends.
