I think I need new valve seals or something...car burns approx 1 quart 10w40 oil per week...car is driven relatively hard...often around 4000rpms...no blue smoke or smoke out exhaust...however, with air filter off, a reasonable amount of blue smoke will come through throttle body and PCV valve when revved. Car also hard to start occasionally when cold.

The valve stem seals on early M102 engines lasted only 75-100k miles, also the valve guides wear quickly. Replacement parts are much better. If the compression is good try new seals.
