I'm thinking of getting an 89' 300SE with 200,000 mostly highway miles on it. I'm worried about the life of the engine and things that may be wearing out. What needs to be checked specifically? The car seems to be in immaculate condition and was very smooth when I drove it. At what milleage is a complete overhaul recommended?

First thing to do is take the car to a dealer or independent shop & have the car gone over for any needed repairs, and have them give you an estimate on cost of needed repairs. Then add $1000 or so. Spend $150 now or $$$$ later.
