Swapping W126 Headlight to Euro?

I have seen bits and pieces of threads on swapping US spec headlight assemblies to Euro with improved look and lighting capability.

One of my plastic covers and the glass lens was cracked by a rock this week ... sounds like it is the right time to swap them if I am going to do so ... can anyone recommend a source for purchasing a set and an idea what it will cost for the parts ... does it come as a kit or are a laundy list of parts needed? I understand some wiring usually needs to be done to prevent overloading the supply circuit?

Thanks in advance.

Here's a post that talks about the installation on a W126:

Mein E-code lights are in!!!!

You don't need extra wiring or anything if you use the standard bulbs.

Mike Tangas talks about soldering a wire in, but that's only for the city lights set-up, which most people don't do. Here in the U.S. we don't have city lights.

Do a search on this...you'll find a lot. As for buying them, a used set will come up on ebay every once in a while...you're gonna get them cheapest there. If you want new ones, try www.capitolwest.com. Pricey! As far as wiring, all you need to get is a plastic 6 pin connector plug (you have a 4 pin now). From what I hear you can get that at your dealer...couple bucks. You'll need to rearrange the wires within the plug and if you want the city light to work in conjunction with your current side marker, some very basic wire splicing needs to be done. If you want the vacuum aim to work, you'll have to do some pretty nifty work...many posts on this one too on here. And lastly, your US headlight wiper system will work with euros, but if you want the euro wipers (look much better), you'll have to buy new wiper motors (they turn the opposite direction) and the euro wiper arms. I don't know if you have to buy the bracket under the headlight and the fascia piece or not, since mine is already a euro car it already had the correct ones on...maybe someone else can help me out on that one. Bottom line, with just a basic installation with the things working in your car, not much of "laundry list" at all. Good luck!

For original Hella or Bosch euro headlights, you can try:

www.bekkers.com

For aftermaket euro's, DEPO is the only brand with quality.

Try ken @ importvision. They are about half as much as the cost of the bosch or hella's.

www.importvision.com get their number, and call ken and tell him Alon sent you. He should be able to help you.

Thanks much to everyone ... will get on it ... as life would have it, I lost the low beam element two days ago. Aacck ... had to replace it prior to getting into this ... seems like my timing is always about a month off!

FYI ... I tried the bluer versions of the 9004 bulbs ... seems a bit whiter and brighter, but not blue. Available at Walmart.

fellows you have to buy your headlights from them in order to get conversion kit.

contact www.capitolwest.com

i don't know what is in the kit.
it does allow you to use/convert headlight wipers to euro spec ones.

using the u.s. ones with any conversion looks stupid, like you ran out of money.
[ this is my opinion, with it and .99 cents i can buy a cup of coffee]

here's a link to a serious w126C conversion
