Maybe it's due to the problem you are having with the tightener.
On the research I did on the air pump question in general, it appears 1990 was the first year, as there is no reference to the air pump wiring existing until 1990. I think the problem you are having with fastlane is because the 89 is lumped into the same year range as a 1990, which does have the pump.
I am really pretty sure the numbers I gave will work. It seems to me when I was contemplating doing this on a car that it looked like the air pump can stay bolted up too, if you don't want to remove it. The belt will miss the air pump pulley entirely. That's how I recall it anyways.

Just had this problem and went and bought the belt for the 89 2.6 which is shorter. Removed pump and placed new belt on and the belt is maybe an inch too long. The problem why you can't just removed the pump and buy a belt for the engine without the pump is because you also need the alternator bracket replaced which will reposition the alternator up and over some which will make the belt fit.

The idler pulley is also located slightly different IIRC and it's also a different size on the non-air pump cars. If you change the alternator bracket, you also have to change the fan pulley bracket for the early version as well.

I'm having to figure out the belt size for my engine as it's an 89 3.0L with a 95 E320 AC compressor and tensioner on it. What my friend recommends to estimate the belt length is to wrap thread around the the pulleys then measure. Go to the autoparts store, grab a couple of lengths at or smaller than that and see which fits best, take the others back.
