W124 - Proper Way To Lube Side Mirrors?
Howdy Gang,
Spring cleaning is in the works. When I adjust my side mirrors they're little stiff and jumpy. Considering they're almost ten years old and have probably never been lubed, I'm assuming that's what I need to do. Can anyone let me know the best way to go about it? Thank you in advance. Best,

Mike, this is most certainly an unusual question, so I went to ALLDATA and this is the removal process that might help you get to the motor mechanism. Let me know if this works.
Electric Mirror Removal and installation of electrically adjustable outside mirror A. Mirror glass Remove and install Force mirror glass out with plastic wedge and pull off plug for mirror heater. Note: The mirror glass can be mounted only with the drive tappet of the electric motor in retracted position and aligned toward mirror glass mount. Insert plug for mirror heater. Engage mirror glass audibly into drive tappet and engage mount for turnstile (arrows). B. Complete outside mirror Remove and install Unclip cover plate from door frame (arrows) and pull out of door trim in upward direction. Unscrew fastening screw on electric plug connection and pull off plug (electric motor and mirror glass heater). Unscrew fastening screws for outside mirror and remove mirror. For installation proceed in reverse order. Copyright © 2003 ALLDATA LLC

Dude. Thanks, but that is WAY too complicated for me. I was kind of hoping the answer would be "adjust the mirror way out and then spray some lube in there."
Just to clarify, the motors move the mirrors just fine, but when they get towards the end of their travel, the glass's movement seems sticky and jumpy. It kind of makes a creaky sound. Thank you for checking, though. I really apprecaite it. Mike

On mine the mirrors will essentially fold flat to the body if you push them towards the rear of the car. I have never thought to lube the mechanism when I have run into them in the garage and folded them (but I think I will now!). I believe the mechanism is visible with the mirror folded.
