300CE: Window Screech & Scratched
Over the last few weeks, whenever I roll down and up my window of my 300CE, I get this irritating screech (sounds like glass vs metal). Today, I noticed a looong vertical scratch, well more like a CUT, on the glass!!!
Is something wearing out?? Alignment?? Glass looks ugly now so may have to look for a new one.. $$$... |

It seems something came apart or wore out inside the door. Unless you can find the problem by shining a light down the window gap, a good inspection by taking off the door liner will tell you what the problem is. Either way, I bet the door liner needs to come off.

First step is to take the door panel off. The problem should be then be obvious. Let us know what you find.

On some American cars there is a few metal tabs with some type of felt that runs against the window to keep it aligned. When this felt wears out bad things start to happen to the glass. Not sure of this with the MB but it sure sounds like it. My 76 Trans Am started doing the same thing, till I replace the tabs.

On more than one car I've had the felt tabs age and the window develops an embarrasing squeal when it goes up or down.
