I placed this car in storage about 4 years ago and went to drive the car this past summer and discovered the emergency brake had been left on. Now the brake seems to be stuck and I believe could even be rusted in place. I tried driving the car and still the break stayed locked into place and even caused a heavy brake burning smell when I tried to drive the car. Any thoughts on how I will get the break un stuck? Is this going to be expensive? Thanks for your time and for the information provided. |

Hello Terry,
First thing that I would do is to spray some penetrant/lubricant into the tubing that the cable goes into/comes out of. Sometimes you can get these things loose by stepping on the e-brake repeatedly while activating the release mechanism. A 'quick fix' alternative is to see if you can get a hold of the cable with a pair of pliers (or the like) and then hit the pliers with a hammer forcing the cable back towards the front of the car. ( this worked for me once in a parking lot) Careful with the spray so you don't get any on the brake shoes/pads/rotor/drum. Good Luck! ps: welcome to the "Shop" ------------------ 03/83 300D 07/73 280 |
