FYI. I have a 87 300TDT that had similar issue. The console is a little tough to lift off because of little plastic snaps underneath. This was my first question for the Mercedesshop and Benzmac steered my straight. Becreful though, because the wood is very expensive to repalce if you crack it. Lastly, I found my bulb was fine, but had fallen out of the socket. I stuck a little foam rubber under the bulb after I stuck it back in so it would never fall out again.
