W210 Headlight Bulb Replacement
Had to replace the low beam Headlight bulb on my 98 E300D. The instructions seems simple enough. However, I had a hell of a time doing it. The problem is there is very little room behind the right front (passenger side) headlight. I did remove the cover to the intake air filter housing to get more room, but it was still not enough. Essentially all the work was done with my left hand, working almost by feel -could not get more than one hand in the space at the same time; and could not see much once a hand is in the space. I am surprised I got it done.
There must be a better way. Should I have removed more items to create more working room? Going to rest my sore back and to take care of those scratches on my hands now ![]()

Hello, I just did the both of mine because the lamp housing had cracked.. I had to remove the whole headlamp as one unit first to be able to gain access to the back.. There are 3 bolts to remove it 1. on the top near the fender 2. on the front under the black rubber weatherstrip 3. can be seen after the rubber strip is pulled to the side.. Do you have the headlamp washers..?

phouse, Cracked housing - I hope that is not a common occurence. Thanks for the reply, next time I will know to remove the headlight bolts to replace bulbs in the right front headlight.
Luckily I don't have the headlight washers, one less thing to worry about.

I have a 2001 E320. Mercedes uses 2 torx screws to hold the bulbs in place. the problem is that those two sockets the 2 torx screws screw into crack really easily. I already had my replaced twice by the factory, first time was one week after I bought the car!

parkin light bulb
Be careful if you have to replace parking light bulbs. Rotate the socket 90 degrees to the side. The tabs that hold the socket in are very fragil, I expect they are weakened from heat. The sockets are expensve to replace and the new ones are just as cheaply made. It wouldn't be so bad if they were well made, but if they were they wouldn't breaK in the first place. If one bulb goes bad, you might as well buy two new ones.
