Gear Shift Upgrade to Touch Shift

Hello Fellow Enthusiasts:

I have a question regarding transmission upgrades that I have also posted in the Performance Paddock forum.

I recently discovered great things on ebay and just bought a C-Class "Touch Shift" floor shifter (part number A 202 267 056 G)designed for 2000 and later C-Classes.

I would like to install this piece on my 1999 C43 AMG that came with the regular floor shifter: left to right for 4th to fifth gear "D"
and down one at a time for 3rd, 2nd and 1st.

The new touch shift shifter allows up shifts or down shifts simply by pushing the lever to the left or the right.

My question is: Will it fit on my transmission? (I think it will because the 2000 C43 AMG comes with a touch shift floor shifter).

If it fits, would it be relatively easy to change out the old LED clock for the the new LED clock that also displays the gear the car is in? (They are the same size).

I know I can buy the wood trim to make it look OE but wonder if this is a relatively simple bolt on upgrade that would not alter the AMG shift point programing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If this helps answering my question, my transmission number is:
722 631 0 123 7345.

I just received the touch shift floor shifter this evening.

Thanks

I think you will have some serious issues with this conversion.
The "touch shift cars" use a completly different networking system
for the transmission controls which ties into the cluster.
The vehicle body harnesses are different from 99 to 00' and so
are all the other related can operated systems.
The floor shifter is actually a control module and communicates
info to the transmission ecu and valvebody.
The engine ecu is also modified to communicate with the shifter.
The 99 used a brake pedal / ignition switch park interlock cable
which ran from the pedal to the rear of of the trans.
On the 00', the stop lamp switch is used to activate a solenoid in
the shifter.
I am not trying to rain on your parade, but this may not be
a plug and play setup.
Sorry.

I once had somone ask me for an estimate to retrofit xenon lighting system with leveling and pnuematic door closing assist to a 2000 Canadian S430 swb. When I got to $22,000.00 in parts alone they said " ooohh never mind."

Anything can be done. It just takes time and lot's of money.

Dr. D.

Thanks for the reply -- I guess I wasted $20.00 (including shipping) on this part unless I want to seriously convert my car with an ECU, wiring harness and tranny upgrade.

It was certainly worth the question!

$20 bucks is a smokin deal for a ESM shifter unit. Those things
list somewhere over $450. Just hang onto it and when someone
with a C,SLK,or CLK dumps a cup of coffee in theirs, (DOOM to
the shifter!) you can make them a screaming deal.
