Benzmac,

Just removed the fuel tank today to pull the entire exhaust for a TimeValve SS exhaust.

Overall the gas tank is in great shape and the interior shows zero corrosion. However, I noticed some tail-tell signs of fuel weepage at the seams of the upper and lower halves of the gas tank. The signs were more like "witness marks" vice "wet". Not sure what to make of it, but I figure I got three options:

1. Have the tank checked out by a fuel tank repair facility (do you have any you recommend).
2. Use Restomotive's fuel tank sealer and just seal the seams from the inside. Being careful of course to not let it get near the fuel inlet "bucket" area.
3. Buy a new fuel tank (ugh, $500+).

I am replacing all low pressure fuel lines and wormscrew clamps along with the support floor.

Please, any other thoughts/advice you might have while I've got both the tank and exhaust out would be appreciated.

Thorough cleaning and corrosion PM underway in the aft half of the G.

I had mine done by a tank repair shop. They installed some sort of inner liner into the inside of the tank..It is red in color and sealed the tank well. It will take a few days to cure.

Will check out an outfit in PA that welds gas tanks and another that is a franchise called RENU that uses a seal.

I plan to POR-15 the exterior of the tank after the seal job. Priced a tank out of Germany. $700 plus shipping. About what I expected.

Exhaust is off to Timevalve tomorrow.

JR,

A friend of mine pulled the tank out of his BMW 2002 and had it brass lined. A radiator shop in Cleveland, Ohio did it. I guess they clean the tank real good then pour liquidified brass into it then swish it around. Seems to have worked very well and this was last summer. Not sure if this is a widely practiced method, but just wanted ot chime in. BTW, Timevalve makes a very good exhaust system, we installed one on a 6.9 at the shop and it fit excellent and sounded similar to a more expensive Borla system.

Dittos on the Timevalve system. I've got a 10 year old system on my 450SEL. Absolutely zippo rust. Same or slightly Less expensive than stock/OEM. Time to replace the hangars though.

Never heard of brassing a fuel system, but I'm very ignorant in this area. That's why I'm here.
