some time ago, i put up a post concerning the replacement of the hydraulic rear suspension for my 126's[560sel, 560sec].

i was answered and referred to a posting on another benz site. i emailed the author as he requested. and he wouldn't answer privately as he insisted be done.

i really did not want to join that site just for this answer, so i challenged him to reply as he requested.

basically, he responded by telling me to "screw-off".

i really don't give a rat's ass, but i ask you, if someone offers info via private email is there some etiquette that allows for that stricture to change to a public airing. and if so, why does it require my joining a website so as to ask the question? why didn't that individual just post the answer for the gp?

i am confused. i consider the guy real rude. am i wrong?

i call that reneging. you offered that info via email. i call that a private matter. shall i send you that posting of yours where you offered the parts and mod data?

here is what i read...

The springs are $160 each retail, but I got them for less than $50 each from thebenzbin.com.

I paid $98 each for Konis from tirerack.com, but that was probably overkill, you can get all kinds of generic shocks for as low as $30 each.

I paid retail for the blanking plate from my local stealership, less than $20 including the gasket and 4 small bolts.

Become a member you are legally accepted the disclaimer. Some people may hesitate to help you privately because if you screwed up and get hurt, they afraid that you may turn around and say so and so show me. And therefore he or she is responsible for your screwed ups.

i think it is clear that sheep alert wanted to be consulted privately. otherwise, he could have posted this info publicly then.

it is my guess that no one has ever gotten the info offered from mr sheepf.

and that is not the spirit of this site, i trust. to make an offer and then to renege. or is it?

My patience with DIY sites has been a mite trying lately.

I am definately loosing sympathy for people that demand a response by personal email or worse yet by phone. I was warned when I first started writing on this forum to send all private email to the forum. The reasoning is simple; I spend my time writing and one person uses the free results or I do it on forum and archives make it usable to many forever (more or less).

As this isn't a technical issue, I am not following the link to form a judgement on this case. The tone in this forum leads me to this response. I also feel that no one should ask for anything for free except in public over the forum. If you wish more personal info you should be willing to pay for it or forget it. If you can gather all the free info necessay by forum, more power to you. To insist on private communications without pay is insulting to me.

Each has his own way of dealing with it.

i really don't disagree with you. sheepf was asked to provide that info publicly and responded by saying email him directly.

taking him at his word, i did as he requested. then he changed the rules that he established.

that is my complaint with sheepf.

personally, i still can't understand why he didn't put that info up publicly in the first instance since he initiated the thread.

had i been he, i wouldn't have volunteered that info without volunteering it completely and publicly when i first posted it. just my sensibilities. and yours too i think.
