Dumb move, but today I dropped my key while getting out of car (89 190e 2.6) and it conveniently fell into the space between the console and passenger seat and disappeared under the seat rail. Absolutely cannot get to it without removing seat.
I do have the CD for the car, but cannot find anything about removal procedure for the seats (they have all the power gizmos). Does anyone know of a description of the removal procedure, or would I just be better off to go have another 1 or 2 spare keys made. Thanks. |

You can use a long magnet/ Just take the 4 bolts out (one at each corner) You will not have to take loose the electrical portions to pick it up enough to get out the key./

Dave,
Have a 300E myself. If I were to retrieve all the change that has fallen out of my pants pocket and fallen in between the seat and console, the value of the car would decrease by $50.00. You might try one of those "parts retrieval tools." I got one for about $3 at an auto parts store and it's been handy a few times for retrieving screws inside the door, as well as a french fry between the seat and the console

I would first try bending a hanger so that it has a 1" hook at the top and fish around under the seat. If that doesn't work I'd loosen the 4 bolts enough to rock the seat up alittle and then use the hanger. there is no reason you pull the seat OUT of the car, unless you just want to. (Carefull, it is heavy.)

Thanks guys, I appreciate the suggestions. As soon as I finish my taxes and my frustration levels lower, I'll give it another try.
Larry, by the way if you ever want to get rid of your 5 spd 300E, I'd certainly be interested. Thanks again. |

Dave,
You'll have to go on the waiting list. I've had several people tell me they want to my manual transmission 124. I totally understand why. It took me a long time to find one and I felt very fortunate to find one at all, much less a good one in the right color. I would have taken one in almost any condition and certainly any color. However, I'll probably have it when I go to my grave, unless I go to my grave because of the way I drive it. In that case there probably won't be anything left for my wife to sell you. If you're really interested in finding one, watch the adds in the Star. There was one in there about a year ago. I would even put a wanted ad in the Star and certainly in the Shop and Swap on this forum. Good luck, if you can find one, I'll bet you'll get as attached as I am. I'm doing my taxes today too. It is a major league stress generator. The schedule D is insane, the fact that if you make too much money you can't get a tax credit for sending your son to college, and then you have to get a specific form to send in the money you owe. I guess we're the only country in the world where we get penalized for working hard to get ahead. I guess they're trying to say that if you make too much money, you're kids shouldn't go to college. No Larry, what they are saying is that if you make a lot of money, you should pay thru the nose for everything. Could you imagine a corporation run like our esteemed IRS. The more you make, the more I take.
