Got it.

I find that I have to hold mine for about 4 seconds before reading codes.

Who knows... maybe there was a change between model years... but I really doubt it.

I tested for codes last night after a long weekend trip and no codes have popped up. #30 works just like all of the others.

Willy

For extra help..

here is a picture of the X11/4 38-pin Diag Socket with active pins for my '95 E420 similar to what Willy found on his '94 E420. Also see more pictures below for related items.

Great picture!

Can't quite read the insert box. Do you have it in a more legible form?? Will post it on my page if ok.

Re SRS: It's a digital system in both '94 and '95 for 129s, 140s and 124s according to my sources.

Jim,

Yea, I'd like to get to the bottom of the SRS pin. I swear I got a code #4 on that pin.

I have a much clearer picture Jim but...

.. due to forum's file attachment limitations i had to cut down the resolution/size (~50k). I'll email you the photo file tomorrow (~110k) to post to your site with pleasure.

It is amazing that with all the info posted here and on Alldata, I still am not clear on the meaning of the codes.

My '95 E320 wagon has, of course, the 11/4 connector, the version of which, according to Alldata is for a California car, though I know this one was purchased in Atlanta.

Anyway, pin 2 is a pushbutton, Pin 4 is an LED. When I use the pushbutton to read codes, I get codes 2 and 26, which I have not been able to erase (I get the same codes when I use my Impulse Counter gadget...can't erase them with that either).

Could someone tell me what these mean or point me to info on the forum or Alldata?

The only other code I got was a code 8 on pin 6 which, if I'm reading Alldata correctly, is an airbag code. that one I was able to erase. So I'll see if it comes back.

Thanks for the help.

Allan

PS: Is there another plug that I can use the Impulse Counter on for this car...there is mention in various posts of a round plug with 30 odd pins?

Jim,

Thanks for the information.

I've been screwing around with the Bowden cable and vacuum modulator so I'm not surprised at code 26.

How do I clear the codes? I did the usual drill...hold down for 8-10 seconds but doesn't clear them.

Again, thanks for your help.

Allan

Probably indicates that. . .

the faults are ACTIVE so can't be cleared. Had a similar problem with my ASR on my page ('www' icon below) and select Menu #24 for the similar problem.

Reading codes

What if any codes can be read on a 1989 260e. I assume that this is an analogue system. Can anybody verify this. Cannot seem to locate diagnostic socket of any kind. What should I be looking for. Seemed a lot easier on my 1995 S320. Had to sell it too costly to maintain. I now have a Trisco Palm Scanner looking to be plugged into something.
