96 C280 Water Pump Bolts

Hi Group,

Is there a specail tool that is used to remove the allen hex water pump bolts on 96 C280. 6mm allen hex seems a little large for the bolts. Could this be a 6mm allen hex head with corrosion that is causing the problem or will I need a 5.5 allen hex head? I want to be absolutely sure of the size.

It is my understanding that these bolts can be a problem to remove and I want to use the very best tool and technique the first time around. I have also heard using valve lapping compound on the tool may help prevent slipping.

Thanks

The bolts are 6mm. Snap On tools sells a tool which makes getting to these bolts easier. The tool is #TUAM6E. Hope this helps, Robert.

RPM,

Thanks for the Snap-on lead. I will order that tool. The problem is that the head must be damaged because a 6mm will hardly enter the head. I will now have to use some sort of extractor to remove the bolt.

Have you run into this problem and what have you used to remove the damaged bolts?

Thanks
