fuel reserve light

Hi i have a 88' 260e when i start the car or turn the key on the reserve light for the fuel gauge comes on, but when drive the car the light never comes on? I have driven the car to the point of the needle being on the last mark of the gauge and still no light?

What is the normal location of the gauge that the light should come on at?
