1995 E320 Engine Sound
Hello all,
I had a chance to drive another 1995 e320 and the engine was so much quieter! It was almost like my old 1988 190e2.6! Now I am wondering why my car sounds so loud! My car has a very sharp "zing" to the sound while the other 320 had very muted sound. Anyone care to comment? |

Do you have a hood pad on your car? If not, then noise from the engine isn't dampened. That's my first thought.

Yeah, it does have the hood pad. One thing I notice is that there is a loud resonance just over 2000 rpm. Could this be somekind of exhaust leak?

Possibly. My exhaust went last winter. It broke clean off just aft of the center muffler. It had a sound similar to the one you deascribe before failing.
