feedback please for possible new owner....

It was recommended that I post this on the tech forum:

Hello to all,

I am over from the roadfly bimmer boards. I am a current e23 735i owner. I have the opportunity to purchase a 91' 300 SEL from the original owner (a good friend of ours). Champagne with tan interior, about 100k miles. The car is mint (and I mean mint) inside and out, with all service comming from the dealer. Will keep it this weekend to test out. I know e23 Bimmers but I'm not up to speed with this model Benz. Any and all feedback would be appreciated (realibility, price, ect.)

TIA

You'll probably continue to be not up to speed with a 300SEL Even compared to an E23 a 300SEL is not a hot rod. Much more roomy and comfortable and probably handles better than an E23 with the exception of body roll. Acceleration and top speed aren't anything to write home about.

Bullet-proof car, but no "bullet" about sums it up. If you're not in any great hurry, but want to travel in style, this is the car for you.
Very very safe also.

I secong Gilly's opinion.

Good car and best for freeway drives, trips etc.

You have your bimmer for fast action, get the SEL for relaxation.

The problem is I can only keep one. The 735 is my daily driver. Good condition for an 18 yo car, but still, its 18 yrs old. If I pick up the Benz, my Bimmer has got to go. Not enough space in the driveway.

PS: Don't tell the guys on the roadfly e23 board I'm lurking over here!

My 300sel is not as slow as folks seem to indicate.. It's no speed freak, but plenty fast to keep up with traffic.. On the highway, there is plenty of power to move around in traffic too..

And, it gets 20MPG.. Not bad for something slightly smaller than a school bus
