Hello,

I have a 1995 Mercedes-Benz E420 (W124) and I've noticed that the windshield wiper "skips" during its swing back to its resting position. This only occurs when I am driving in the city. When I am on the highway, the problem goes away. I've had the wiper blade replaced, but the problem hasn't gone away. I've made special mention of it to the mechanic who services my vehicle at the dealership, and he said he "adjusted" the tightness of the wiper assembly (dunno wut that means), but the problem still persists. Does anybody else out there have the same problem, and have found a solution to it??? Thanx!

I've seen 2 causes for wiper "skip".

1) Aftermarket wiper inserts. Be sure to use the OE Bosch inserts because they are made of softer material. The aftermarket inserts are harder and last longer but tend to skip.

2) Old or bent blades that have become stiff at the pivot points. Remove your blade and check to make sure each pivot point moves easily.

I had the same problem on my 300D, turned out to be the arm had been twisted slightly. Your car has the one arm system, which is different but should be the same result. Make the wiper stop mid-way and see if the wiper is sitting correctly. It may be twisted slightly under, which makes the rubber "push" against the window. This may be futile, but worth a try. Good Luck!

Turn the wiper on and use the key to go to position 2 and back to off. Do this until you can get the wiper to stop half way, after you have it stopped somewhere in the middle, get out of the car and move it to the middle. It won't move when in the parked position if I remember correctly.

Old subject, but while it is revived, I used to have the same problem with the cheap refills that you get from the dealer. I put a bosch wiper in there and have not had the problem since. Also, oil and dirt residue built up on the wiper blade and/or the windshield can cause skipping.
