I have noticed a low speed grinding type noise through the steering column of my '92 500E, 61k miles. Noise only occurs below 40 mph and goes away when I apply the brakes.
If I gently ride the brakes the noise goes away as well. I know that these cars have a reputation for dodgy brakes and my early production (late '91) car has the original brakes. The pads are fine, I know, because the car just went through its major 60k mile service. Any similar experiences? David Hendy '92 500E |

You should have the wheel bearings checked. Also, have the torque of the wheels checked. (lug bolts)
Lastly have the shields checked for a rock that could be stuck in there. ------------------ Benzmac: Donnie Drummonds 1992 500E (very soon I hope 1981 280GE SWB ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN SERVICE MANAGER FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |
