I have the same problem with mine not staying running on the first starting. What I do is turn the key over untill the fuel pump kicks on but not far enough to engage starter then turn it back and do it again. After the fuel pumps done the second time then I start the car. Not sure what causes this but I have a lot more important things to fix at the moment. Hope this helps!

I wonder if my 1993 2.8 is having similar problem to yours. Im in Chicago and the weather just started getting cold. The engine needs 3 or 4 cranks, and then only starts after I press the gas pedal.

Any ideas for me?

5*C is about 41*F, so what is mild weather?

And what is the 'cold start temp for emissions certification'?
Do you mean emissions for cold start up?Really, cold start up refers to any temp below when closed loop takes effect, usually, 60-80*C

The owners manual for my 87 300E says that for start problems, hold acc. pedal to floor and crank over. So a no-start on first crank is not unusual.
