$ for 1992 190e 2.6

I need some advice. I would like to know if a 1992 190e 2.6 with 107000 miles is worth $3800 ? Everthing works and seems to be in preety good condition, the idle and shifting is good. Cant find anything wrong exept faded floor mats and radio wont come on because of secirity code. Would like some opinions before I shell out the cash.

Sounds like a good price. It would be worth the $50 to get a pre-purchase inspection. I think even PepBoys even does them now...

Make sure to check the climate control and pull the plugs to look for evidence of oil usage. 103's are damn good mills but, have a history of guide wear. Guess what, that one is right in the range for it to start showing up.

The car is too far for me to check myself but I did have a guy go look at it for me. I dont know if he checked the spark plugs but Im sure it doesnt smoke and he didnt see any oil leaks. Thanks for the advice. What should this car be worth if everything is in good shape? The owner says it apprasied for $7000 , does that sound right?

Sounds OK to me, I picked up a 2.3 with a few problems (that turned out to be beautifully minor) with a little less mileage for $3500. I say go for it!

appraisals are worth less than the paper they are written on. check kelly blue and there are others so do a search on this site.

you'll even see differences in value if it's a private party or a dealer for the same exact car.

check car pricing guides [kbb] and others

ask for pictures, everybody has a digital camera

look at certain areas like the drivers seat for wear areas. look for po receipts for proper maintence etc: if the car hasn't been maintained it may not be worth 38 dollars if you're going to be putting another 3 grand in it

and the last go look at ebay prices that should be a comprehensive guide of national pricing.

good luck

I found the car on ebay. I saw pics and it looks good just wondered if even a good 92 190e was worth $3800. To late now anyway I won the bid. Guess if it has problems I can always log back in to the shop forum! Already got a 85 2.3 with a idle problem that has drove me nuts. Maybe this will be a good one. Thanks everyone for the help.

The item number is 2435702717. It says $4000 but Im paying $3800 because I caught the guy running up the price himself, long story but Im going to buy it from the owner not the guy who put it on ebay.

fake bids are not legal

well let me say this. this kinda crap (@%^%) happens all the time. i had 1 guy tell me he had a friend that was going to bid 3800$ on a warner swasey lathe.

guess what ? I turned him in. that is not how the game is to be played.`

i wouldn't buy the car and i would turn the person in who was running the price up. you see that crap all the time. one guy will bid 5 to 10 times one right after the other. when i see this i know it's a rookie or the owner has got a false name or a friend is doing it. i quit bidding. and you ask why i quit because every time i see this the feed back is always 1 to 9 feedback rating.

you should turn it in. i would. don't get me wrong i'm not mean spirited but i hate cheaters and con men. and if the false bidding hadn't happened you could have gotten your car for less.

i've bought all 3 of my mbz on ebay and hundreds of tooling and cnc machinery for my business. i think it is a great place to get something you need at a price you are willing to pay or can afford to pay. but i hate cheaters and that is what happened to you.

but on the other hand you seem happy and comfortable with the price and the car so don't let me kill your happy feelings. i'm sure you love'll the car!!!!

Thats why Im trying to find out if the price is a good deal or something I could get anywhere. I like the car but it grips my @#! that I had it won at $2750 untill the guy listing it started running the price up. The owner claims no knowledge of what the lister was doing but who knows. I thought about turning him in but I know he will just leave negative feedback on me when I do. Unless this is an exceptionally good price I think Im going to back out of the deal because I will probably have a bad taste in my mouth everytime I drive the car knowing I was jacked. I changed my mind I am going to report the seller, his name is webwheels for everyone out there. Dont bid on anything he has or you will be sorry! Thanks afmcorp for reminding me how mad I was.

Ebay Cars

I bought a '92 300e 2.6 on ebay about a year ago and it has been a wonderful car. I made sure to search just the Chicago area when I bid so I would be able to look at the car before I bought it.

The car had 106,000 miles on the 2.6 engine (same engine as the 190e 2.6) and runs beautifully. The only problem I had was that the engine used quite a bit of oil (common for these engines). I replaced the valve stem seals myself for less than $20 and oil consumption went from about 1 quart in 1000 miles to less than 1/2 quart in 3000 miles.

As far as I'm concerned, condition is the main factor in determining a price for a car, especially a ten year old one. You might find a car $1,000 below book value but end up spending $2,000 in repairs the first year. Service records, number of owners and general care and condition should tell a lot about how well a car has been maintained. There are plenty of 10 year old Mercedes cars out there that have been very well kept and are in near mint condition.

John thanks for the input.
afmcorp - The car that needs the doors is one I am looking at buying. After I thought about the way the guy had done me on the 92 190e I decided to not buy it. So now im looking for something else. I saw this 91 190e 2.6 that is supposed to be in good shape except for the damage to the door skins. Just wondered how much it would cost me too replace the doors and if my 85 190e 2.3 would fit on the 91.
