Headlight flashing feature W124

Was this feature available on a 1989 W124?
Mine has never worked.
Is there a relay somewhere making this feature operational?
Thanks

You must mean the "flash to pass" feature, where you pull back towards you on the turn signal lever.
Yes this car has it. If the normal high beams work OK, but the flashing feature doesn't, it's safe to assume that the turn signal/high beam assembly (combination switch) is bad.

Yes, I meant the flash to pass" feature''
headlights, parking lights, flashers, all work as they should.
Does replacing this switch involves the removing of the steering wheel?

Before you change the high beam switch, check your fuses. There is a SEPARATE fuse for the high beam flashing feature.

MB refers to this feature as the "optical horn". Kinda' makes sense.

Is there a MY year range on this feature or does my 86 have it as well?

Our 86 190e has it so I would assume that the 300e from the same year also had the feature.

Thanks.
Knew my combo switch had problems... guess I have another one to add to the list.

Every MB that I've owned all the way back to my 114 cars had this feature. It was on my 68 230 stick shift car and my wifes 73 250 and all MB's we've owned ever since.

In fact I can't remember ever driving a German built car that did not have this; BMW's, VW's and Audi's.

Have a great day,

Originally my 70 280SL did not have the flash to pash function. The Germans left off a couple of wires on US delivered 280SL's. I traced the wire schematic and was able to find which wires were missing and replaced them so that I now have this function.

My "flash to pass" is intermittent. Some they get over, sometimes they don't Is there a way to fix it and make it more reliable?

You will have to go back deep into the 1970s or even the 1960s to find ANY German car without this feature. ALL W124s have it for sure.
