This is a new one for my 190E. Driiving along with the ac on..thumbwheel rotated to "min" everything is fine and then all of a sudden....no ac! Turn off the ac button...set to vent and it blows air (that rules out the blower motor I guess). Wait a couple of minutes...hit the ac button and all is well again. I did notice that the air didn't seem to be quite as cold as before. FYI- Just (last week) had a new condensor-fan clutch-dryer installed....and re-charged with freon. Anybody had a similar problem? Since I'm driving from Tucson over to California having my ac working is a big deal!

Hey Dave, sounds a little like my 1990 190E 2.6. My a/c used to work perfectly now who knows what you'll get when you push a button on the climate control system. I can usually get heat any time I want but the a/c is a little tempermental. I have found that the a/c comes on and blows cold air out the center ducts but the side ducts will sometime blow hot air with the a/c on. If I switch it off for a few seconds and turn it back on it works as it is supposed to. I know my aspirator (that sucks air into the temperture sensor next to the sun roof switch) is not working. That may be the cause. But you know how it goes I will fix it when I have the time. Hope it helps. Good luck.

You may possibly be overcharged with r-12. Gets hot pressure goes up, trips out the compressor, you fiddle with the buttons giving it time to cool down. and repeat the cycle. I would have a high index of suspicion about this since you recently had major work done on the system. Have the pressures checked with a reasonable heat load and I'll bet the low side will be above spec.
