My brother n law's windshield wiper on his 85 190e 16v is operating very slow or not at all. Is this only the motor wearing out or could it be something else. He wants to purchase a new motor for the wind sheild wiper, but before he does I want see if anyone else had a similar problem.

Thanks,

Yep, sounds like the motor is dying. But, he should also check the linkage arms for wear or dragging... could be something simple, but worth checking. I'm not familiar with this model's motor, it may be something else all together...

Very common on this car for w/s wiper linkage system to "tighten" up. If you continue to use it in this condition, it can burn-up motor, burn out switch & relay. Have seen this more than once incl MY race car before I bought it. On "C"-class have replaced too many!! Lots of $$$$$$

This problem is addressed in the Dave L. Mercedes Mail List. It requires a cleaning and lube. The details and procedure are in the archives.
