Brake Pad Wear Light
I have the orange brake pad wear light on intermittently in the dash; it happened just recently. 1995 E320. Checked the brake pads, and they seem fine. They work great. How accurate is this light, or does MB just have a high threshold of when they think its time to change the pads?
The light comes on when the brakes are applied; also sometimes when the steering wheel is turned. It does glow steadily when the brakes are applied.

I believe on most models, the light is set to come on when there is 3mm of pad left on the front, and min thickness is 2 mm. Some models have rear sensors too.

That is the way my warning light went as well. This is normal operation. It will soon be time to do the brakes. I believe the light is intermittant because the rotor is the ground path for the circuit, so initially it comes on only under braking conditions.
How long until brake work is based on driving style, distance, and time. I just ordered the parts when the light began to indicate intermittantly, and put the parts on as soon as they arrived.

Great. I will order the parts soon. By the way, are there any good aftermarket pads that have the sensor, or should I go with OEM? Also, the brakes are starting to squeal. Will this go away with new pads?
Thanks.
