OK, just picked up the 300E and she (of course) has tacos for rotors. I've done the fronts on these before and it was a breeze.

Rears.. oh oh, what have I gotten myself into.

I have the calipers off (no biggie) but the rotos simply will NOT come of the hubs. I have the parking brake off, that's not a problem.

The little allen is out and I've been beating on the face of the hub with a rubber mallet to see if it's corrosion holding it on and she won't budge..

I know there are parking brake shoes inside the rotor but do I need to do something speacial to release them beyond letting off the parking brake?

PS I did a site and even a Google search with a variety of terms and the best I could find was the brake pad replacement page on this very site....

Hit the "inside" of actual rotors and keep turning them...you are going to replace them anyways, who cares. Also spray some wd 40 around the hub to help you.

I'd been wailing on them a bit from the back with the mallet.. I'll keep trying that. I thought about wd40 too.. I guess I should avoid spraying it inside the back of the assembly though..

UPDATE: Some oil on the front and a lot of beating on the back of the rotor and it came right off. New one slid on without a fuss.

Next time turn the adjusting wheel (dented) back to the zero position.
This wheel becomes accesible through one of the holes of the wheelbolts
as you align this 45° above the horizontal axes towards the rear. You'll need a flat screwdriver of 4,5 mm. Turn up on the left wheel, down for the right.
And don't forget to readjust after reinstalling!
Doing so it will be possible for the brake shoes to retract.

Ah.. cool! Thanks for that update! I just hammered them off and slipped the new ones on. I've not driven it much (it's my backup car) since I did it.. I guess I should check my parking brake to see f I need to make any adjustment to it.
