Transmission pan still leaking
Pulled the transmission pan and installed new transmission filter and new gasket. I'm quessing the torque should be around 10NM. I also have a BMW R1100RS and this is what the torque specks for it are. Leaks just in back of right front corner. Pulled it back off and added at little high temp silicon--still leaks in same spot. Took it back off and ran a straight edge over it and it seems fine. Put it back on and added silicone under and over gasket making sure not to have silicone inside and it still leaks in same area. What is a good sealant to use for this. You should not have to use any with rubber. Also added one quart of sinthetic fluid with atf with regular mercron 111 and later read that you do not put atf in these transmissions--hope I didn't hurt anything. Has anybody else had this problem or do you think previous owner ran over something and warped the transmission fluid pan. Thanks for any advice. Also have oil leak coming from just under head in front on right side or maybe from timing cover on right side. Thanks in advance. Dennis

I had a similar problem after inadvertantly overtightening the transmission pan on my car. I found that the subsequent distortion to the bolt lugs had caused the bolts to bind on the holes and thread on to them, giving the impression the pan was tight. To remedy I drilled the holes to 9mm for clearance.

A gorilla disgused as a mechanic can also bend the "ear" down by overtightening so that it won't hold the pan up correctly. Very common problem (along with cut gaskets!).
Should seal without any sealant, if not, check for distortion or a scratch or something stuck to the transmission body. Peter

Some after market trans gaskets have been known to leak much easier than OE ones.

Now I believe the leak is from above the transmission pan on right side of transmission. There is something attached to the trans by two allen head bolts with an adjustment screw and locknut and it also has a snap ring in center holding something in center. Is there some type of O-ring in this mechanism that could be causing the leak.

Could this be the modulator seal and can it be changed without pulling the transmission or exhaust? Are these seals bad about leaking transmission fluid.

The modulator is mounted on the driver's side of the tranny.

What is this thing described above post on the right side of tranny that is leaking. This car is new to me and I have not received my sho manual I ordered for it yet. Anybody have a diagram for this?

I mistakenly over-torqued mine on 2 occasions and experienced no leak.
I used oem gaskets/filter/etc. I doubt that the setting you used is causing a leak. You're way under the setting I used. As suggested earlier, you may be dealing with a problem created earlier by someone else or the leak is really coming from an adjacent spot. If warpage due to gorilla hands is the problem, you may have to snug it up a bit and if that doesn't help, examine the edge of the pan again. My 2 cents.

I think that is the B-2 piston cover. There is an o-ring that can leak, also the tranny vent will dribble fluid down that direction if it's overfilled.

The transmission will leak fluid from the region you mentioned if it is overfilled.
Be sure to check the level afte the tansmssion fluid had reached its operating temperature and with the engine idling.

hs_300E may have figured out the problem.
Drive the car on the higway for a good 15-20 miles. You want to check tranny fluid when it's good and warm. Pull over afterwards on a flat surface. Leave it running. Pop the hood and remove tranny fluid dipstick. Clean it off with a lint free cloth. Some say to use a leather rag. Never seen one. Reinsert the stick, let it sit a second, then pull it out. The fluid should be no higher than the upper mark. If it is, you have too much.

Ok, the leak is coming from the b-2 piston. It has a snap ring holding something in. Will I be able put jack under transmission and loosen transmiision mounting bracket and pry transmission to left enough to remove the guts of the b-2 piston. Is the o-ring that leaks inside the b-2 piston. Does anybody have a diagram of the b-2 piston. Thanks in advance.
