Another leak in my 124 transmission.

I have recently replace the governor seal on my 1988 300E. Thanks for the help guys. I also noticed another leak from the passenger side of the transmission. It is coming from what I think is referred to as rear pump or secondary pump. It has 3 allen key screws and one 10mm bolt I believe on the cover. Could anyone tell me what is involved in replacing this seal?
Thanks,
Steve

There are two rubber o-rings in it. The most likely one to leak is the small one where the center cover comes out....There is an internal o-ring and one snapring.

The leak looks like it is coming from the base of the cover. I can see the snap ring you are talking about but it looks like it is coming from below that. To take that cover off is it just a matter of taking the four allen key screws out and the 10mm nut off?

Yes remove the 3 allen bolts & the nut. The nut holds the governor in place so look at the "slot" on the stud that the nut screws onto & make sure that after the repair that the slot is still in the same position. IT's a good idea to replace the nut as there is a molded seal on this nut.

I replaced both of the seals, and the nut with the molded seal, but there is still a leak. It almost looks like it is either leaking from the nut or from the small metal cap where the snapring goes. Should the metal cap have to be replaced? I hate transmission leaks.

BTW M.B. DOC The local parts guy was almost rude to me when I asked if the nut had a seal in it. He said "No it is just a regular nut." I asked to see it and there was the seal. It sure was nice having your helpful tip.

Thanks

I was doing a search and I found this.

Steve,
I think I have the same leak. Did you fix the problem?
Anybody else had success with this repair. Tips?

Steve, mine is leaking there too. After you remove bolts how far does the governor protrude into the transmission housing. Not much room to pull it out on mine. Did you have to move transmission over any. I have my driveshaft loose in the front installing a flex disc and now is the time for me to fix this.

Hello J.Hidaglo and 1988 300SEL. It has been so long since I worked on the leak I don't recall if I did anymore seals. It still leaks about a drop or two a day when parked. Quite minor. I have kind of decided to live with it. I wish I was of more help.

1988 300SEL - On my car I did not have to move the transmission at all.

Hope this helps,
Steve

I just took the governer out cleaned everything with laquer thinner and reinstalled original gasket with high temp silicone. I filled the cap with the lock ring with high temp silicone and the 10mm nut was coated good too. I don't believe it will leak anymore. We'll see!

Steve,

Is it necessary to empty the transmission fluid to change the seals? You mentioned you did not have to remove the transmission. Any tips/tricks to it?
As you notice I try to stay away from transmission work.
