help need with steering for w108
Hi there,
I'm having problems with the steering on my 1968 280s. When i turn the car full lock left it makes a wurring noise and when i turn it to the right it feels very tight. I've chagned the pump but that has made it worse - the car won't turn to the right at all now. Could it be the actual box instead? If so how easy is it to fix / replace. In addition, fluid seems to spurt from the top of the pump when the engine is running. I've had a nightmare trying to resolve this and don't seem to be getting very far. I f anyone can help i would be eternally greatfull, Yours hopefully, Neil. |

Pop a tie rod off and find out which kingpin is siezed, and replace it.
You do grease all 17 grease fittings every 3000 miles don't you? Peter

Have you bled the system. There is a bleeder on the top of the gear box. With the engine off, open the bleeder, the level of fluid will go down in the reservoir. when fluid instead of air comes from the bleeder shut it off.
The best way to get all the air is to do this a number of times or get a hose and run it from the bleeder to the reservoir. Start the engine and open the bleeder. With the end of the hose submerged the bubbles can be seem and when gone you can close the bleeder. DO NOT TURN THE WHEEL while the bleeder is open. It will blow the hose from the bleeder or the reservoir and make a mess. It might atke closing the bleeder and a couple lock to locks and then another openning of bleeder to verify.
