I am interested in redoing the drivers seat on my 87 300E. I did a site search and found that the 99 March - April Star magazine has an article on rebuilding the front seats. I would like more lateral support, and the info on the Sportline page about more supportive seats implies that better seats are available. The local MB dealer says that "all w124s use the same front seat spring, the only difference is the pad, which comes in 3 types, for velour, mb-tex, or leather upholstery". They were unable to find anything about a Sportline seat. Were these different seats, different pads, or what? Can a regular MB tex seat be redone with a different pad to get more lateral support? Thanks as always for any information!

Well my 94 sales catalog lists a "Sportline seating" option for the W124, which was standard on the E500. The option included different front seats and two-place rear seating with a center console. The seats are aggressively bolstered but I can see that the basic frame and springs might be the same. You definately sit "in" rather than "on" the seats.
Good luck with your search. Dean Albrecht 94 E500 |

Just thought I'd mention that the seats in my 500E are actually sourced from Recaro, so I kinda doubt they'd have much in common with a regular 300E/400E seat. Maybe you can find a wrecked 500E or 300E/300CE Sportline?
Good luck! ------------------ Best regards, Michael '92 500E '88 300TE |

I've added a pneumatic lumbar support, and in my searches have found pneumatic bolsters than could be inserted as well.

There are the three types of covers, but the springs and pads are all the same. The Sportline parts are not interchangeable. The best suggestion is the "used" route, and be prepared for big dollars.

Where did you get the lumbar support to add to the seat back? Is is manual(you pump it up) or electric?

I got the manual pneumatic lumbar support from Moss Motors in Goleta, California.
