My 1986 300E has 192k mi. on it. The oil pressure reading during idle is in between 1 and 2(about 1/4 qtr)above the 1. Is this alright or am I headed for trouble. As far as I can tell this car runs fine.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Live by it with a Benz. You have to do preventive work at times, but this is one area that you can do more harm than good. You are fine with over 1bar or 15 psi of pressure.

the 300e owner's manual sez:
"The oil pressure at idle speed may drop to 0.3 bar (4.4psi) if the engine is at operating temperature. This will not jeopardize its operational reliability. Pressure must, however, rise immediately upon acceleration" you've got lots of margin there ... i also admit to be overly sensitive about and watchful over the oil pressure gage readings of my M103 190e2.6 ... |
