suroof tilt won't close

The sunroof on my 86 Euro 500 SE is "misbehaving"
it goes back fine then come foward about three quarters of the way and stops I then can press the swicth as if I were tilting it and it will slide foward and close all the way. Closed it will tilt open but will not untilt. I can untilt it or open and close it with the manual control in the trunk. any ideas?

Microswitches on the motor need to be re-adjusted, something has slipped.

The closed position is set by swtiches in the motor, the full open and full tilt are set by the switches in the motor.

If the motor runs but the roof panel doesn't move, check for proper lube and then for broken lift angles -- the translation bridge will cock and jam if one of the lift angles is broken or bent.

If that won't cure it, either the cable is bad or hte motor itself is screwed up.

Peter-

What would be great to understand and figure out is how the microswitches on the motor are re-adjusted. I think you had mentioned using the positioning "tool" to get the adjuster wheel in the correct position.

I have tried this a bit but I am not clear how much/many turns etc.

Haasman:

If the procedure is the same for the newer cars as for the W124 chassis, you have to close the sunroof, then uncouple the clutch (and I will have to check on how, I've forgotten), then move the switch adjustment so that you can install a 3mm allen wrench in the alignment port on the motor. I will try to dig this up on my CD manual tomorrow, but can't promise anything (it's spring and I have to dig holes for the 40 wine grape vines I bought this year). I believer you pull the plastic nut for the manual operation off, but I dont' remember what you do then.

I posted the procedure a couple years ago, you may be able to dig it up in the archives. It's not diffucult, but PLEASE remember to pull the allen wrench out before operating the sunroof!

Thanks Peter

I did a search and I believe this is the thread you were speaking of: Sunroof + Switch

Very helpful,

Haasman
