umm..let me clarify the problem i posted recently...the temp reads 100C even if its 68F outside...this is only usually when i'm either at a red light or in traffic...if i'm driving at speeds of 40mph and above the temp drops because of the cold air...the car has never been at 100C before even in traffic and its 90F outside...now its there all the time...please advise...thank you...

I'm not sure I understand. Are you talking about your outside temp display or the engine temp display.

If you really want some data. Try this. Place your A/C Temp at "LO" and press the "REST" button for five seconds (with ignition on - the car can be driven - but pay attention). The "LO" will change to 01 and the right side of the display will give a temperature. (This works on all 95 and later 202,210,208, chassis and also works on 140 by placing the left temp LO).

The number 01 can be changed by pressing the + blower button (this changes to 02, hitting the "-" blower button goes backward, 140 chassis use the AUTO button). There are numbers from 01 up to around 50. They give the values for many things including ALL of the temp sensors (heater cores, evap, ambient, incar, engine), engine speed, vehicle speed, A/C high side pressure, refrigerant temp, whether gas or diesel, version coding, emerg A/C off signal from engine management and others.

The evap temp is 06 if I recall. Placed in the 06 position one can drive around and monitor evap temp. (I like this function for evaluating A/C performance). Since I am at home I don't have the list. Most of the important things are in the first 10-15 values. Most are indentifiable with some observation.

Anyone want to fill in the blanks????

BTW a value on the right that looks like this: 12*8 (with * actually being a deg symbol) means 12.8 as in 12.8bar (high side pressure).

thanks for the informative help...but i was refering to the coolant temp not the ambient temperature...i'm sorry but i don't know much about cars so even if i tried that little function that you mentioned i wouldn't be able to tell the difference to figure out what stands for what...but thanks again...

Steve,
Very interesting info. By any chance, would you or someone else with the info be able to post what the left side numbers correspond to ? This would be a good reference to have...
thanks on advance

This info is so interesting that its a shame it will get buried without being seen by many.

Here is the list for 140 chassis as of 1.5.95. Others are very similar. BTW the left number is just the sequence number the right value is the actual value as interpreted by the controller.

01 = In-car temp sensor, 02 = outside temp sensor, 03 = left heat exchanger (heater core) temp sensor, 04 = right heat exchanger sensor, 05 = evaporator sensor, 06 = coolant temp, 07 = refrig. pressure in bar, 08 = refrig temp sensor (23*9 = 23.9deg C), 09 = nothing, 10 = Blower control voltage (great for evaluating blower controller problems), 11 = emissions sensor (B31) e.g. 3.1 = 31.v, 12 = sun sensor 4.2 = 4.2v, 20 = aux fan control 6.1 = 6.1ma (max 10ma), 21 = engine speed, 22 = vehicle speed, 23 = Circuit 58d e.g. 99 = 99% of battery voltage,
24 = BATTERY VOLTAGE (cool I wish I'd know that before)e.g. 12.5 = 12.5v, 30 = left rear air conditioning heat exchanger temp sensor (not all vehicles;obviously), 31 = right side, 32 = rear evap temp sensor, 33 = blower control voltage rear 0.8(MIN) - 6.0(MAX), 34 left rear temp selector, 35 = right side, 38 = software status e.g. 37 rear air conditioning, 38 = hardware status e.g. 37, rear air conditioning, 40 = control module version software status (?), 41 = control module version menu hardware status, 42 = control module variant code 1st number, 43 = variant code second number.

Too bad I don't know how to make a list here.

This is very helpful and interesting information and I can confirm that this method works on the '94 202 (C280).

Thanks Steve

How many miles on your CLK?

has the cooling system been serviced, if so when?

any work done recently at all? basic maintenance, air filter? accident repair?

if driving and temp is at 100c what happens if you put your heat on high? AC off, blower high

also how did you come up with the name Angel Dust?

Steve,
Great info. I noticed a few gaps however (13-19), is there any way to find out what these are or get an expanded list ?
Thanks

Normal

Hi, I am Alberto and i have the same car as you with 120.000 miles .
What you explain is normal for me may car alway worked in this way.
At the beginning iwas afraid to see the water rasi 100 C but is normal.
I changed my tehrmostat vale and flus the cooling system, the result is the same.
My next project is tho clean the outside radiator and upgrade the fan cluch, if you do a search about '' FAN CLUCH'' you will find many good information because the maisn problem is that the cluch engage too late and if you lost a little bit of fluid youf cluch spin too much when you are idling.
The auxiliary fan comes on when the cooling raise 105 C or when the A/C pressure switch close............and in the summer this help to cool this engine.
I hope this help you.
Alberto
