Where is a charcoal canister?

I was looking over the import sheet on my euro car and am wondering one thing. Here is what they installed: a cat, an o2 sensor, a new ECU (to make it compatible with the o2 sensor I guess) and a charcoal canister. So where would this charcoal canister be located???

On USA cars it is between the LF fender & fender liner.

Thanks MBDOC. How is this area accessed? In case it is not there, what is this thing hooked into? What lines should I look for to find it? Also, what function does it perform? Are there any downsides to it?
